McWhorter doesn't see the hypocrisy of: Trump “wants to persecute his enemies just because they don’t like him.”

After 8 years of persecuting Trump because they don't like him they now are afraid the shoe may be on the other foot.

Just to update: Trump was shot by a member of the Left on July 13th. McWhorter needs imprisonment.

House Resolution 8081 would remove all Secret Service protection from any person convicted of a felony. IOW, if Trump goes to prison, then passage of this bill would pretty much guarantee that he will not come out alive. It was written by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the former chairman of the House Jan. 6 select committee, and has eight more co-sponsors. RFK Jr. has been denied Secret Service protection, even after a man with a fake US Marshal badge was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon at a campaign rally. The Democrats aren’t just thinking about murder, they are actively trying to encourage and facilitate it.

Dimms clearly out for blood, and murdered one and severely wounded two on July 13 at Butler Pennsylvania; and but for Divine Providence would have assassinated President Trump: https://peterdanielmiller.substack.com/p/proof-positive

Ever since I found Glenn and John back in 2020, I have been impressed with their intellects, integrity, and intrepidness, often in the face of vicious attacks from all over the political landscape. I've followed them both since, but confess I haven't been keeping up with them so much in recent months.

So, I was horrified to read here that John's otherwise astute faculties had been so completely corrupted by TDS that he appears to wish death on Donald Trump, for fallacious reasons largely promulgated to, and perpetuated by, the very psychotic mob he boasts of transcending. His myopic unwillingness to grapple with the perils of “preferred pronoun" acceptance in the larger context of things like women's spaces and sports is also staggering. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPKxLaR3-1A)

It truly pains me to see John behaving with such a mortifying, self-certain smugness on these topics, though it is just the latest in a long list of examples that not only are intelligence and education, as oft measured by academia today, of little value in inoculating against TDS and similar thought viruses, they actually seem to heighten susceptibility. Glenn is correct to call his friend out on a staggering lack of introspection here.

Which is why I must say I am equally heartened and, once more, impressed by the extraordinary eloquence, courage, candor, compassion, and brilliance of the great Glenn Loury. This reminded me of his beautifully expressed yet brutally honest discussion with John Wood Jr. several years ago, a discourse that cemented me as a fan of both men and their work. (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pRIIc5mjciQ) I would later go on to sign up for Braver Angels, John's group.

I fear I am doing Glenn a disservice by calling him a national treasure, as the entire world would benefit from paying even more heed to the man, no one more so than his old friend John McWhorter.

People think that Democrats calling Republicans fascists started with Trump or at least recently. Not true:

“As I’ve observed here before, this is the oldest cliche of the left, going all the way back to FDR and Truman. Let’s take in the front page of the New York Times, October 25, 1948:

PRESIDENT LIKENS DEWEY TO HITLER AS FASCISTS’ TOOL

Says When Bigots, Profiteers Get Control of Country They Select ‘Front Man’ to Rule DICTATORSHIP STRESSED Truman Tells Chicago Audience a Republican Victory Will Threaten U.S. Liberty

CHICAGO, Oct. 25 — A Republican victory on election day will bring a Fascistic threat to American freedom that is even more dangerous than the perils from communism and extreme right “crackpots,” President Truman asserted here tonight. . .  “Before Hitler came to power, control over the German economy passed into the hands of a small group of rich manufacturers, bankers and landowners,” he said.

The F-bomb really got a workout when Barry Goldwater came along in 1964. California Governor Pat Brown said Goldwater’s famous acceptance speech “had the stench of fascism. . .  All we needed to hear was ‘Heil Hitler;’” San Francisco Mayor John Shelley: The Republicans “had Mein Kampf as their political bible.” Most of the media was happy to amplify this chorus.  Columnist Drew Pearson, for example, wrote that “the smell of fascism has been in the air at this convention.”  The Chicago Defender ran the headline: “GOP Convention, 1964 Recalls Germany, 1933.” (I could go on for several more paragraphs with “Goldwater is a fascist Nazi” quotations.)

I was shocked to hear this about John McWhorter. Though he always was to my left politically, I found his commentary to be intelligent and thought-provoking. Listened to him and read his articles over the years. Sadly, TDS is consuming him now... and destroying him. I pray his good friend Dr. Loury can help him.

By his own words McWhorter used his NYTimes media-megaphone to incite violence, assassination of President Trump. And then someone took him at his word on July 13. Y'know, we haven't heard any apology or expression of remorse from this supposedly 'intelligent and thought-provoking' academic. Rather this appears to be a person so utterly consumed by TDS that he has lost whatever common-sense he may have been born with. Hey John McWhorter, you got your wish that someone would assassinate Trump; or at least try to. And your supposed to be an educated person with integrity? You’re just another hypocritical purveyor of violence.

I'm an agnostic,

but I really admire his books,

so I'll forgive him for this,

and say half a prayer

(just in case...!)

Expand full comment

As an "agnostic" to whom do you pray? As an agnostic, do you expect your prayer to be heard and acted on? God exists whether you believe or not. And He DOES hear prayers, whether you believe or not. How do you believe in forgiveness if you do not believe in a Higher Moral Sovereign? Are you aware that you become what you admire? How can you admire a man that holds so much hate in his heart that he literally recommends murder of a person because the person isn't like himself?

"These six things the Lord hates,

Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

A proud look,

A lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood,

A heart that devises wicked plans,

Feet that are swift in running to evil,

A false witness who speaks lies,

And one who sows discord among brethren.

This man you admire appears to be described by God's Word from Proverbs 6: 16-19. You might want to think about who you "admire." Btw: God considers destruction of a person's character as murder.
